Will We Take Action or Continue Living as Slaves to the New York State Government?

2/16/2023

As we push through our busy lives and stay largely disinterested in the issues that shape our worlds, power-hungry politicians have a field day with our ignorance and apathy. Yet, a small portion of us do care, but what can we do to change things? Surely in a state like New York, we cannot vote our way to freedom; and the governor, bureaucrats, and lawmakers in Albany have free rein to enact laws and policies in a one-party state. Our taxes increase, regulations grow more burdensome, and the cost of living becomes unbearable; but what are we doing to challenge the elitist policies?
We have a few options available, but all of them will take up some critical time and effort. Divide New York Caucus is attempting to partition the state into three autonomous regions. For years, Upstate New York has been subject to the whims of New York City, and there has been no relief for struggling families and individuals interested in retaining their God-given rights. Gaining semi-statehood within New York State; which would provide New Amsterdam (Upstate New York), Montauk (New York City suburbs), and New York City (city limits) with their own executive, legislative, and judicial branches; would alleviate some of the pain, hopelessness, and bitterness that many residents feel. New York City would be able to keep its money to fix its own infrastructure (or add any additional social programs), while New Amsterdam would be able to govern itself without the excessive taxes and regulations that hurt businesses and create an environment of depression.

Currently, very few state legislators are on board with this idea, and many have not never heard of it. Yet, if the people are in support of it and the politicians are not, what does this say about our present governing structure? Do these politicians not work for us? Why do they get to put their own financial interests or political ambitions above what we desire for our state? We can petition them, but they will likely reject our ideas. In addition to writing to our state senators and assemblymen, which is still worth doing (we can always try), taking local action is our best bet. In fact, if we can get counties or municipalities (cities, towns, and villages) to adopt home rule resolutions, this will compel the state legislators to cosponsor the Divide New York bill. The formats are available on the website, and with just a little bit of your time, we can get this idea circulating around the state. If the politicians feel enough pressure from their citizens, it may get to the point where they have to start caring about our interests.

What can we do in the meantime? Well, spread the word around as much as possible and start to educate yourself on the issues surrounding the state, and begin to gain an understanding of what is in the pipeline (not Nord Stream or Keystone) if we do nothing. We can also attempt to engage in acts of non-violent civil disobedience in response to unjust laws and regulations. As risky as it may be, if you own a company and are able to ignore certain laws, this would be a good way to show the state that we are serious about our liberties. The more businesses that resist, the better chances of success. Since they cannot arrest everyone or shut down every company, they might eventually have to give in to the demands of the injured people of Upstate New York. If we create parallel structures and economies and the state government becomes overwhelmed and cannot enforce the laws, we have a chance for real change. At that point, our overlords may have little choice but to grant us the autonomy that we deserve and pass the three-regions plan.

Can we pull this off? Well, one thing is for certain: if we do nothing and continue living our lives how we have been for many years, the one-party state will constrict tighter and tighter on our liberties and take everything that it can from us. If we take small actions in the now, there is a chance that we can save the state for posterity. Are we content just simply worrying about what Governor Hochul, Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, and Senate Speaker Andrea Stewart-Cousins want for our lives, or will we stand up for what is rightfully ours? Ultimately, we must make that choice.

Thank you for reading, and please take action today!
