The State of New York contains a tremendously diverse population divided among highly differentiated regions. Most of the state consists of small- to medium-sized communities set in a rural and suburban climate, generally marked by moderately conservative values. Meanwhile, the counties that make up New York City are significantly more left-leaning politically. The other downstate counties and Long Island are also unique from both upstate and NYC.

We are happy to see AOC wants Congress to admit both upstate NY and Puerto Rico as new states! (but there is no federal bill so far) We support this and will continue to support three autonomous regions NYS bill numbers A04446- S4541 as either plan will help both upstate and downstate.

Town of Bethany passes home rule resolution in support of a NYS constitutional amendment to divide the State into three autonomous regions. A04446/S4541 Resolution 15-2021 was passed by the Bethany town board unanimously. Below is a sample email to send to get your local government to act. For City, Town or Village Official's Email. In NYS under the home rule clause, NYS Senators and Assembly(wo)men are obliged to introduce a bill if a municipality in their district passes a home rule resolution; and then sends a copy of the resolution AND the bill (Amendment) to their NY State legislators. The proposed amendment is would partition NYS into three Autonomous Regions; the amendment text and an outline that explains it can be found under these bill numbers A04446- S4541 .
