We have once in a lifetime opportunity for Upstate and LI, to become a state.

    Puerto Rico voted to be admitted to the union as a state, and the US House voted to admit it in 2021, but the US Senate blocked its admission; because it’s two senators would change the balance of the United States Senate.  Please email your member of Congress you can lookup the email here​https://www.house.gov/representatives/find-your-representative .​ Ask him/her to introduce the bill to link the admission of Puerto Rico with the creation and admission of New Amsterdam. New Amsterdam would be created by partitioning NY State.

Section 6 of this law requires that the existing 2022 shapes of the NY congressional districts be maintained, in New Amsterdam till the next census. balance of the Senate would be maintained and both states would be admitted, on Jan 3, 2025.

​Since 1889 States have mostly entered the union in pairs one leaning Democratic and one leaning Republican. The last two were Alaska & Hawaii, in 1959.
New York State would probably release New Amsterdam, because its share of New Amsterdam’s new states' federal transition funds would close NYS budget deficit.
Should Puerto Rico be admitted alone the opportunity will disappear for maybe another 60 years.
